Feinstein and Darfur Universities share lessons from research partnership

The Feinstein International Center has been working with academic colleagues in Sudan since it began working in the country more than 20 years ago. However, developing partnerships at the institutional level has been challenging.

In early 2019, the Center began its first ever institutional partnership with Darfuri Universities: the University of Al Fashir (North Darfur, Sudan) and the University of Zalingei (Central Darfur, Sudan). This partnership, under the Taadoud II project, aimed to conduct operational research, promote academic collaboration, and build capacity of stakeholders in Sudan and abroad.

As the Taadoud project came to an end, the three universities shared their experience of the partnership and some of the key research outcomes on March 29, 2022.

Musa Adam Ismail (University of Zalingei), Abubakr Siam (University of Al Fashir), and Helen Young (Feinstein International Center) shared the successes and challenges of the partnership. Hassan-Alattar Satti shared the research findings. Elizabeth Stites moderated the event.

The more than 100 people in attendance showed interest in how the partnership was possible giving all the bureaucratic, funding, and institutional challenges.
