Roxani Krystalli facilitates workshop at Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice
In January 2017, Roxani Krystalli facilitated a workshop on gender and refugee crises at the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego. The workshop was part of the WorldLink Youth Town Meeting drawing together over 700 high school students from San Diego and border communities in Mexico. Roxani’s simulation highlighted the gender dimensions of refugee crises and invited students to consider how physical safety, access to money, relationships with formal and informal authorities, access to humanitarian assistance and asylum, and experiences of displacement are different for men, women, boys, and girls. Roxani joined practitioners from organizations working on various aspects of gender-based violence prevention and response, including the engagement of men in gender equality initiatives, the experiences of LGBTQ groups, and the intersection of gender, race, ethnicity, and religion.
