WHAT WE DO
The Feinstein International Center’s mission is to protect and strengthen the lives, livelihoods, and dignity of people affected by or at risk of hunger or humanitarian crises. We strive to fulfill that mission with work in three primary areas:
The number of undernourished people around the world is rising. Feinstein is investing in research and education aimed at reversing this trend and meeting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Global Hunger by 2030.
In collaboration with our colleagues across the Friedman School, we examine world hunger in its full complexity — from molecular processes to planetary food systems, from laboratories to farms, and from the individual suffering wrought by hunger and malnutrition to the broadest impacts on economics and the development of nations.
Feinstein’s original mission was to address the challenge of famine. Today, we remain focused on this work by examining the intersection of world hunger and humanitarian crises, where famine and other food and nutrition emergencies arise. After decades of progress, the risk of famine has returned as a major global concern, and Feinstein researchers are thought leaders in renewed efforts to understand and prevent these crises.
