While the Unicef framework for the causality of malnutrition has been widely adopted across both development and humanitarian spheres, there are key elements that require urgent re-emphasis and updating. There are also significant gaps in the framework itself related to the systemic drivers of acute malnutrition, specifically in drylands. These gaps limit the framework’s power to discern correctly the drivers of acute malnutrition in drylands. Until we update the framework and apply this better understanding, the impact of interventions will remain severely blunted.
On this webinar, we will discuss the need to update the conceptual framework particularly for drylands, what specifically needs to be revised and re-emphasized, and how to improve the framework. The discussion will be based on Helen Young’s Brief “Nutrition in Africa’s drylands: A Conceptual Framework for Addressing Acute Malnutrition.” We welcome comments on the brief by email and during the webinar.
