The Feinstein International Center welcomes Anne Richard to the Friedman School to lead a special seminar: Helping Refugees through Aid, Resettlement, and Diplomacy.

Mrs. Richard is a former Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees & Migration and is currently a Perry World House Visiting Fellow, University of Pennsylvania and Adjunct Professor, Georgetown University.

Mrs. Richard was nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in November, 2011 to serve as the top Administration official managing U.S. refugee programs and spearheading diplomacy on humanitarian issues. In her role as Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration, she advised Secretaries Clinton and Kerry and other senior Administration foreign policy officials.  Mrs. Richard led U.S. government diplomacy on refugee policy and humanitarian issues, defended resettlement of refugees in American communities, created new programs for Central Americans fleeing violence and the “Safe from the Start” initiative to protect refugee women and girls. Prior to her role with the previous administration, Mrs. Richard was the Vice President of Government Relations and Advocacy for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and worked her way up from Advisor to Director of the Secretary’s Office of Resources, Plans and Policy in the State Department.
