Feinstein Special Seminar: Research and Practice: Influence on Public Action
Gregory C. Gottlieb, Deputy Assistant Administrator at the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict & Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA) at U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will deliver a special seminar on research and practice at Feinstein. He will pull on his vast experience to discuss humanitarian action and resilience programming in the current climate.
Mr. Gottlieb spent the majority of his distinguished career developing and managing international humanitarian assistance, food security, livelihoods and related development programs, striving to strengthen their impact and reach through innovative and measurable approaches. While serving as the
Acting Director of the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), he created a civilian protection unit. As the Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Food Security, Mr. Gottlieb oversaw the development of Feed the Future, an initiative that integrated USAID’s nutrition and food security programs. And, in response to the terrible drought of 2011/2012 in East Africa, he helped start the Global Alliance, an international forum that brings multiple donors and other stakeholders together around a resilience agenda to more effectively respond to future droughts and other economic shocks. He also served as the Chief of Party for USAID’s Famine Early Warning System (FEWS) while teaching at Tulane University.
