At this very moment, there are over 65 million people who have been forced to leave their homes in search of safety: more than ever recorded in human history. Against this backdrop, critical discussions about asylum and immigration have been shaped by divisive rhetoric and xenophobia.
Yet massive numbers of people around the world are selflessly volunteering both their time and their homes to welcome refugees into their communities. Recognizing this widespread energy, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has launched the #WithRefugees campaign and petition, calling upon world leaders to create solutions to better the lives of individuals and families displaced by war or persecution.
UNHCR is seeking to build at least one million supporters for the petition before it is presented to the UN Secretary-General on September 16th, ahead of the General Assembly Summit on Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants in New York.
