Luka Biong Deng Kuol
Luka Biong Deng Kuol is a Professor at the School of Social and Economic Studies at the University of Juba, South Sudan, and a Senior Research Fellow at the Sudd Institute. He is an Adjunct Distinguished Professor at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, National Defense University, a Visiting Fellow at the Feinstein International Center, Tufts University, and a fellow at the Rift Valley Institute. Kuol is a member of the IPC Famine Review Committee.
Kuol serves on the Global Experts Group on Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding, the African Security Sector Network, the Advisory Board of ENACT, the UNIDIR Expert Network on Security Priorities and Public Spending, and the Advisory Panel on the Future of Humanitarian Action.
Kuol is also editor-in-chief of the African Journal of Strategy, Defence, and Security Studies and serves on the editorial board of Disasters. Kuol has published a number of books, including The Struggle for South Sudan: Challenges of Security and State Formation.
Kuol holds a Ph.D. in Development Studies Policy from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, UK, an M.A. in Economics and MBA from Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and a B.S. from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, University of Khartoum, Sudan.
