Project Team

This project was funded by USAID and terminated on February 26, 2025.

Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) is one of the main sectors of humanitarian aid. The goal of this project is to incorporate research into practice in the WASH humanitarian response sector.

This project conducts research on three topics prioritized by USAID/BHA as highly needed:

  • Hygiene kit distribution effectiveness in 3 countries
  • Fecal sludge management in 5 countries
  • Handwashing effectiveness in 1 country and in the laboratory

The project also provides support and training on conducting research, including grant writing, tools, data analysis, research summaries, and webinars.

This project will conduct evaluations to understand how to effectively distribute hygiene kits in humanitarian emergencies. Evaluations are planned for Vanuatu, Somalia, and South Sudan.

This project will also conduct evaluations of handwashing in health-care facilities in Somalia and in the lab to prevent disease transmission.

Researchers will also write up evaluations of fecal sludge management site visits in five countries.
