Extreme heat is one of the fastest-growing hazards globally. Anticipatory action (AA) is one way to reduce the negative health impacts of heatwaves alongside other adaptive strategies to reduce the likelihood and prevalence of heat illness and other heat-related impacts.

This publication excerpt provides an overview of the evidence on AA targeting heatwaves, along with examples of AA frameworks in Bangladesh and Argentina using the 4Ms (Model, Mandate, Method, Means) framework.
