Despite ongoing humanitarian efforts, acute malnutrition (AM) rates in The Daua Basin in the Mandera Triangle remain critically high, often exceeding emergency thresholds.

Addressing AM effectively requires investment beyond treatment to prevention, using a systems approach that tackles the root causes.

The first in a series of learning briefs, this summary draws on findings from two scoping studies conducted as part of a new research initiative, in the Daua River Basin the Mandera Cluster.

The research is part of the Hanaano programme, led by Concern Worldwide (in partnership with RACIDA, Lifeline Gedo and Pastoralist Concern and IGAD) and is a collaboration between the Feinstein International Center and Kenyatta University with funding from Irish Aid.

The scoping study identifies five key messages that highlight critical components of a system’s approach to preventing malnutrition.
