Feinstein director Paul Howe to deliver keynote on famine prevention
Paul Howe, Director of the Feinstein International Center and Irwin H. Rosenberg Professor of Nutrition and Human Security at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy, will deliver a keynote address at the “Global Food (In)Security: Interdisciplinary Perspectives” conference on April 10, 2026.
Howe, who worked for the UN World Food Program for more than 17 years, will explore emerging frameworks for preventing famine amid growing global crises. His presentation, “Preventing Famine in a Changing World,” examines three enduring paradoxes complicating famine prevention and draws on contemporary and historical examples to identify potential resolutions.
The hybrid conference, hosted by the University of Kansas, convenes scholars, practitioners, and policymakers across disciplines to address food insecurity affecting 673 million people worldwide. Registration is available for both in-person and online participation.
