Tarik KassayeSenior Researcher

Tarik Kassaye is a Senior Researcher with the ENGINE (Empowering New Generations to Improve Nutrition and Economic Opportunities) project at the Feinstein International Center (FIC) based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Tarik Kassaye is a public health professional with over 10 years experience in nutrition, monitoring and evaluation HIV/AIDS and research in maternal and child health in various organizations in the UN (UNICEF), universities (Harvard, Columbia and McGill), non-governmental organizations (TUTAPE – Tulane University Technical Assistance Program in Ethiopia) and international organization (ILRI – International Livestock Research Institute).

Tarik obtained her Ph.D. in Nutrition from McGill University, Canada in 2001 and her research work focused on the association between vitamin A status and lung function in children in Northern Ethiopia. As a post-doctoral fellow with the Harvard School of Public Health, she examined the inter-relationships of nutrition, adverse pregnancy outcomes and, maternal and child health in HIV-positive Tanzanian women.

She also holds a Masters in Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry (McGill University, Canada) and a Bachelors of Pharmacy (Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia).

At FIC, Tarik will oversee ENGINE’s nutrition program under Tufts remit in Ethiopia to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of nutrition services in Ethiopia, in collaboration with ENGINE team and partners.
