Mike Wekesa supports the Karamoja Resilience Support Unit (KRSU) by managing the project work plan and objectives, providing technical advice on resilience building in Karamoja, and serving as the focal link between the project and the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Karamoja Affairs.

Mike has more than 25 years of experience in arid and semi-arid development and humanitarian work, mainly in the Horn of Africa countries. He specializes in rangeland management and livestock development, with experience in food security, livelihoods, and disaster resilience programming.

Mike has a master’s degree in management for agricultural development and a bachelor’s degree in rangeland management.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

  • Resilience of households in the arid and semi-arid areas of the Greater Horn of Africa Region to food insecurity – the potential for graduation from food insecurity to food security and value chain development
  • Livestock Value Chain Development in the arid and semi-arid north eastern parts of Uganda
  • Development of supplementary concentrate feed for drought supplementary feeding of livestock and linking such initiatives to the private sector
