Dan Maxwell served on an advisory committee led by Francesco Checchi for the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine study released on September 26. The report, “South Sudan: Estimates of crisis-attributable mortality,” estimates that there have been 380,000 excess deaths in South Sudan between January 2014 and April, 2018, making it one of the costliest wars in human terms of the contemporary era.
