Karamoja Resilience Support Unit discusses ways to strengthen veterinary services

On September 5, 2017, the USAID funded Karamoja Resilience Support Unit (KRSU) organized a briefing session on veterinary governance and coordination with the State Minister, Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), Honorable Joy Kabatsi, actors and practitioners in animal industry, and civil society and academia representatives in Entebbe. The KRSU presented on key governance and coordination issues affecting veterinary services in Karamoja, based on the evidence the team has gathered about the critical role of veterinary governance in supporting animal health in Karamoja. The presentation emphasized the fact that strengthening and sustaining veterinary services in Karamoja depends heavily on government commitment to appropriate policy and legislative change, enforcement of regulations, and coordination.
